The global debate on Nuclear Power has recently gained additional significance in Bangladesh, as the government of the country has initiated the process of establishing the first ever Nuclear Power Plant of the country. The proposed project involves establishment of two Russian made VVER 1000 Nuclear Reactors at Rooppur area of Pabna district in the North Western region of the country. Experts have already expressed their concerns regarding Nuclear Safety issues, at the same time there is debate over whether or not the country needs to depend on Nuclear Power at all. With this context CBS has initiated a campaign to raise critical awareness among the citizenry about Nuclear Safety and prospect of Renewable Energy. This booklet titled ‘The Problem of Nuclear Energy, Rooppur Project and Bangladesh (edited by Arup Rahee and Abdullah Nadvi)’has been published and now being disseminated as part of that campaign.
